For fishing I currently have an ocean kayak drifter That outlaw looks like a well-thought-out boat but I would be concerned that anything only 35 in wide would be really sketchy to stand up on in anything other than glassy water, which I don't think is typical of lake trout habitat

Yes, at least for me, I can’t go too far shouldering a boat even 75lbs I think that is about how much my tandem kayak weighs 55lbs and lighter are much easier My kayak weighs 50lbs, but once you add gear for a trip or an outing it starts to add up I definitely would not want to portage that in the Adirondacks LOL

You are absolutely correct according to Native wisdom They, of course, use seal oil or sea lion oil to soak antler and bone tools, and man does that stuff stink! Also, kelp line and some fiber fishing line was stored in oil to keep it waterproof and pliable --- I once fleshed out two seal lion skins for a museum kayak project

However, for a canoe it is quite fast and maneuverable when used with a long kayak paddle I had mine out on the Chattahoochee River last year and was doing fine scooting upstream and downstream Now, it's not as fast and nimble as a kayak (as others have stated, it IS a canoe, after all), but I do believe the canoe format makes it more versatile
