To pop out of rear high (2H), the rear sliding gear has to move back to the neutral position The most common reason for this is still the excessive endplay in the rear output shaft allowing the shaft to "wobble"

Try replacing the detent springs and ball w new ***** bolts from Toms Offroad I also forgot to say, since your Bronco is a 1966 your detent springs are more than certain worn out The kit only costs about $15 00

While it may not apply to your situation--I had trouble with my single stick popping out and found an easy fix I have 1 5" of body lift which caused an interference between the shifter and the hole in the tranny tunnel which the shifter goes through

My experience with the hd shaft is to torque it rather than measure end play IIRC the torque rating is 5-7 inch pounds might be a pdf file on wild horses site assuming that's where you got it Check your gear and make sure one isn't bent
