- End Grain Screw Trouble | LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
The idea is to glue a hardwood dowel in a hole perpendicular to the screw so the threads of the screw grab into the hardwood cross grain (much better hold than end grain) Obviously, you need to use a screw long enough to fully engage in the dowel And be sure to drill the proper size pilot hole so not to split either of the woods

- What is the best wood for axe wedges? - LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
Just some advice - don't dip am axe in water, when the wood swells it crushes the cells and when it dries the wood shrinks smaller than it was originally and makes the head loose Dipping an axe head on water is a temporary fix for a loose head but doesn't last long

- making a deadflat workbench top - LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
The only suggestion I have is to glue the layers together, then edge the sheets with 1 5 8" hardwood, keeping the hardwood flush wih the bottom edge This will leave a 1 8" "lip" around the top Can you guess what that lip is for? Put a sheet of 1 8" hardboard as the "top layer", and the lip holds it in place, giving you a perfectly flat top
- Screws - Coarse vs Fine Threads - LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
When driving regular wood screws into hardwood, always use a lubricant, like wax and drive without stopping When you stop, it takes a lot of torque to start the screw again
