What do you guys use to lubricate the impeller when your changing it I have seen some people use grease but I don't really want to run that through the engine, unless anybody out there knows that it's OK Will dish soap work?

Re: Which Direction to Curve Water Pump Impeller Blades A look at which way the motor turns will tell you which way to have the impeller blades turned Just place the new impeller on the drive shaft and alingn the keyway and turn the drive shaft the same way as the motor would Putting a little lube (dish soap) on the impeller helps when putting it back together That drive shaft should turn

With the early style (short stiff vanes) impeller t does need to be replaced at an interval no greater than 2 years, but annual is best Usually by the time you get the drive pulled apart and the impeller housing off, what with using new base plate gaskets anyway, you might as well replace it anyway Peace of mind and cheap insurance Chris

The impeller is the cheap part -- the labor is the lion's share of the cost here Whenever I have a 3 5 LU off (for any reason), if the motor has been in service for a season since last serviced, I always change the impeller

Re: Bravo 1 impeller FWIW - The sea water impeller is worth checking every 50 engine hours and replacing at 100 hour intervals (unless it looks really good) I added a sea water strainer to the intake hose that leads to the raw water pump It has vastly improved the longevity of the impeller and avoided down stream clogs at the oil cooler, etc

Re: OMC Adhesive M - Substitute - Impeller Gasket sealing compound, the gasket solution that has a small brush attached to its screw off cap, and the identical sealant replacing OMC Adhesive which is either Marprox Sealer 1000 or Boat Armor Sealer 1000 can be purchased at any automotive parts type store, perhaps even Wal*Mart, K-Mart, etc
