I've tried to load the videos in mplay32 exe and we get the same problem as what happens in PowerPoint (which kind of confirms that its not exactly PowerPoints problem) This really sounds like a codec problem, so I've downloaded GSpot which reports that the codec is the WMV3 with a name of "WMP v9 (VC-1 Simple Main)"

Sounds like a DLL ( Dynamic Link Libray ) issue as that is what rundll32 exe is used to iniate hence the name "run dll 32 exe , Try Clciking Start, Run , type: eventvwr msc s then Click OK On the GUI Popup look for any entries
