- Why are 473nm DPSS laser pointers so expensive?
So I was wondering why it was so much more expensive than 5mW 532nm DPSS green laser pointers (which at the same time, and in the same catalog were still quite expensive, at about $300) And I'm also wondering if the price for 473nm 5mW laser pointers is still $500+, because I can't really find any company selling them anymore at any price period

50mw of 532nm will not light a match It typically takes at least 150mw unless of course you are talking about the very cheap 50mw pointers that are actually IR pointers with 45mw of IR and 3-5mw of green

(For those of you reading this thread out of serious curiosity, the vast majority of laser pointers available on the open market now are operating at or near the output limit of the laser diode, so putting more power into the diode by adjusting the potentiometer will -- more likely than not -- just burn your laser out
