- 25 or 40 watt soldering iron gun for guitar electronics?
Pfft I have a soldering station and I still use my Rat Shack 15 30w switchable pencil iron for really small stuff It has a super pointy tip and my soldering station iron doesn't It has what they call a pencil tip but it's rounded I have a spare for it, so I may sharpen it with my Dremel and see how long the point lasts
- soldering wires to speaker terminals - Harmony Central
Please DON'T just wrap the wire around the terminals, even though it will work for a while, eventually it will vibrate loose and cause problems Soldering wires to speaker terminals is one of the easiest soldering jobs to do, but if you don't want to solder then get some crimp-on spade connectors and use them to connect the speaker
- Removing Soldering Potentiometers - Harmony Central
In the past several months I've rewired and installed new electronics pickups in two of my guitars I had never done any soldering before and they both work perfectly Just take your time, practice soldering with the old pieces and make sure you have everything you need to complete the job before you get started
- How easy is it to burn out a pot? - Harmony Central
If your soldering to the back bottom of the pot (not the little tabby things) rough it up a bit first, scratch it with a screw driver or hit it with a bit of sand paper (remember to clean it off after) and you will find the solder will flow a lot easier
- Any way to wire a guitar without soldering? - Electric Guitars . . .
you can crimp it with some sort of blade or bullet connector im guessing, but im honestly gonna say soldering is normally the best way that your wire doesnt disconnect at the connection point, i also dont know if it will affect tone or anything cuz ive never done it before maybe someone else could further help you with any problems with that decision good luck
- Low heat solder strips. Anybody ever hear of them?
The trick to soldering is to heat the metal of the connection THEN add solder and it will flow around the connection and bond the metals atomically Using a solder strip will 9 times out of ten cause a cold solder joint because you're melting the solder before the metal below is hot enough to bond with it
- Replacing pickups without soldering - Harmony Central
They will work as long as you use connectors of the appropriate wire gause, but as said before they will occupy a lot of space in your electronics cavity Soldering will provide a much neater and more secure connection Also, as far as changing pickups out again later, butt connectors will waste just as much or more wire
- Can too much heat (solder iron) damage guitar pots?
You betcha! It is best to use a powerful enough soldering iron gun to make quick work of it The longer you apply heat, the more likely you are to do damage On the other hand, apply to much heat with a powerful soldering gun is very damaging I am hoping you didn't already find this out on your own -Ron
