Is your personal computer and GNS3_VM on the same IP subnet (e g 24)? I find from personal experience if I use ESXi with GNS3_VM on a server, then run on my personal machine, a VM Player Virtual Box with what ever OS I am testing (PoP OS currently) and that points to the GNS3_VM and works just fine till I update one of them and not the other

Both, packet-tracer und GNS3 have it advantages Packet-tracer has some limitations on the features of the devices (for example the simulated ASA has no "packet-tracer" command, no possibility to configure the global policy and also some more restrictions) GNS3 works with real images and therefor has not those limitations But it has other limitations, for example doesn't know the difference
