- Excel files cant be opened in Protected View
Check if you're able to open the excel file If the above method doesn't work, open the excel file > go to File > Click Options > Select "Trust" > Click the "Trust Center Settings" button > Select "Protected View" on the left of the window > De-select all the selected "Enable Protected View" checkboxes > Press OK to exit

It appears that Excel made a change recently to their protected view I work with downloaded Excel files a lot, and always stay in protected view to stay on the safe side I used to be able to view cell content (formulas, values, whatever) even in protected view, but now when I click on cells the formula bar stays blank unless I enable editing

We have Protected View enabled for our O365 applications We have not changed or updated these settings They have always been enabled as far as I know, including the Enable Protected View for Outlook Attachments

I want to enable a group policy so that files opened (in Word, Excel, etc) from a network location do not open in "Protected View" We're using Office 365 and I've dug around in Microsoft 365 Admin Center but can't seem to find a way to do this Please help!

The excel graphic says "opening in protected view" but the file never opens Not sure why it continues to try and open it in protected view I waited several minutes to see what would happen but it still seems to be hung up in the "opening in protected view" state indefinitely
