- Old Town Pack Canoe - Bushcraft USA Forums
I’ve been looking for a solo canoe for weeks now I’d like to get a nice composite canoe for trips to the Adirondacks but my budget is a bit lower than that what these usually sell for Through my research on solo canoes I’ve seen people mention the Old Town Pack canoes and it seems like there is a cult following for them

Second would be the width My experience with a 39" wide canoe of the same length but about two thirds the weight is that it will be a bit awkward to pick it up and loft it to shoulders for solo carry It's amazing, even to me, how much easier it is to loft a 36" by 16' canoe of the same weight than a 39" by 13'

The preliminary findings are not very surprising to anyone who is familiar with old canoes Most of the Old Town canoes shipped with no options (60%), were CS grade (52%), dark green (48%), sixteen feet long (32%), HW models (25%), shipped to customers in New York (24%), and left the factory during the month of April (20%)
- Old Town NEXT canoe - Bushcraft USA Forums
Old Town specs says the NEXT weight at 59 pounds with the seat out that takes it to 53 or 54 pounds I haven't seen Old Town or anyone else claim the NEXT is a white-water high-performance canoe I found it works well enough for what it was intended for, an affordable solo craft that will carry a paddler and enough gear for a week's camping trip
- Looking at the Old Town Canoes? | Bushcraft USA Forums
If that is the case, you could go with one of the OT Guide series or a Discovery 169 or 158 If I were forced to buy an Old Town tandem canoe right now, it would probably be the Penobscot 164, since it is their closest current approximation of their previous royalex Penobscot 16, which was one of the better royalex canoes of any brand
- Rowing a Canoe Using a Self-Made Kit | Bushcraft USA Forums
Okay, certain Olympic athletes my be able to drive a highly specialized craft that looks sort of like a canoe pretty fast, but not for long But all things being equal, and given two identical canoes like, say, an Old Town Tripper, the solo paddler will have a stroke trying to keep up with the guy or gal rowing the same boat
- Advice on Old Town Guide 147 canoe | Bushcraft USA Forums
I have a Old Town Guide 147 For reference the number in Old Town canoe names is the length, in this case 14 feet 7 inches It is a fairly stable canoe, that can haul enough gear for 2 people for 5+ days, but not good for more than 2 people, even without gear The price is fair, not a bad one
- Anybody used an Old Town Pathfinder? | Bushcraft USA Forums
I have not paddled a pathfinder, but have paddled a royalex old town Penobscot extensively I love the royalex for its resilience and use that canoe for any river paddling The pathfinder is a shorter canoe with a wide beam It will not be a fast canoe but it should be plenty stable What will you be using this canoe for?
- Old town guide 119 - Bushcraft USA Forums
Old Town has been building canoes for a very long time and they are really quite good at it so it's hard to go wrong with one The Pack canoe weighs about 33 lbs and carries 440 lbs with 10" of freeboard, Even if you weigh 200 lbs + that is still more gear and supplies than you are likely to need
