- Cat 6 and switch compatibility. - Spiceworks Community
I did ran 6 cat 6 drops for an SMB he will only use gigabit speed, price from 5E to 6 made sense to just future proof the setup He is still on the old 10 100 switch for now until can verify if new one works right The existing and new switch are both Netgear prosafe 16PT Old is 10 100 new is gigabit All of the new cable is cat 6 UTP I’m trying to diagnose issues and we are trying to
- PoE switch and CAT6 cable distance limitations ? - Networking . . .
We know that CAT6 cable has limitations of 100 meters (330+ feet) distance After that distance you might experience weak signal Wondering if that same rule applies to even a CAT6 cable connected over a PoE switch powering wireless access points ? We are planning to connect power on unifi wireless access points using Unifi PoE switch, the CAT6 cable from the PoE switch to the access point
- How do I extend cat6 cable past 100m? - Spiceworks Community
Then have another switch where the cable enters the other building (switch #3) From there, run a cable to the lobby, around 200-250ft From there, run a cable to the lobby, around 200-250ft I would put another switch at the lobby (Switch #4 ) The total length would be between 500-600ft and all switches used will be gigabit switches
- How do you go from fiber-optic to CAT6? - Spiceworks Community
At the other end of the fiber I used a smaller 3Com switch with the same brand of module If you think about it, it has to work since all switches have to work the same way for interoperability However, vendors like HP will always say that if you use non-HP GBICs and something goes wrong, it voids your warranty
- CAT6: Should I make the switch? - Spiceworks Community
I still don’t see any use in switching CAT6 is thicker, harder to work with, the ends suck to put on Although CAT6 is made specifically for gigabit, CAT5 and CAT5e can support gigabit, although the cable isn’t pushed to its full wire speed I’ve used CAT6 and don’t really see any difference
- Weird cable, switch, POE issue - Spiceworks Community
ok, I have a weird situation and i can not explain Here is my situation, I am setting up a Lorex IP camera system I fire up a POE switch and ran a CAT6 cable to a camera The camera appears to be powered as the infrared light is on and also the POE light of the switch port is on as well However, the data does not appear to be working on the switch the light would be yellow for 100M or
- Maximum Cat6 Length Thats Successfully Worked?
We are expending our office, to promote social distancing, when we reopen We are utilizing a remote portion of the building that we have not used before We’re having a cable technician come in to run a new CAT6 line to that side of the building, although my estimates will put that CAT6 run at around 100 - 110 meters (From main data room to new office) I know I can get a switch, or
- KVM Switch Over Cat6? - Hardware - Spiceworks Community
Hi All, I am looking for something and I don’t know if it exists as I have not yet been able to find it I asked our CDW rep to look for one, but I figured I’d ask here also I would like a traditional KVM switch for two servers (VGA USB), but integrated with a KVM Extender over Cat6, so that the console can be away from the server rack I do not want an IP KVM that is accessed via a web
- Cat 6A compatibility - Networking - Spiceworks Community
As others have said, you can mix and match cat5 6 but the system will only meet the lowest specification in the entire path from device NIC to switch Yep, Cat6 6a cross section is larger than most Cat5e In other words, the cables are thicker and stiffer
- Cat 6 or Fiber Between Switches? - Spiceworks Community
We currently have two HP 1910-24g Switches in our Admin offices The switches each have individual cat 5e that connect to another HP1910g Switch in out Server Room that is about 60-65m away I would like to upgrade the Cat5e to Cat 6 or Fiber to reduce latency in the Admin offices What is the best way to go Cat 6 or Fiber? Fiber is more expensive but I am future proofed that way
